Pope Francis in the bull Misericordiae vultus encouraged to reflect on the meaning of God’s mercy in human history and the practice of Christian charity in life. According to the papal encouragement this article reflects on the content of the notion of God’s mercy. It focuses on these aspects which proved to be essential in the papal bull. The analyses performed are made from a theological perspective; they are therefore an attempt of interpretation, justification, and systematization of the content of the papal statements about mercy. Cat as an animal is a sporadic presence in Vedic mythology and Brahmanic works on rituals, while it appears in a few cult practices of contemporary popular religiosity in India. This article holds that in Indian devotional practices, the cat is conceived as an animal with an ambiguous nature. It also suggests that the cat cult is linked with the need to tame chaos, violence, and con$ict, and to place them in a controlled, orderly, and pacified cosmos. To understand these phenomena, this article studies, from a multidisciplinary perspective, contemporary religious practices in the light of the Indian tradition, and suggests that the cat cult was subject to substantial Brahmanization.

Treść artykułu zawiera teologiczną i filologiczną analizę fragmentu Mowy 38, 11 (powtórzenie tego tekstu znajduje się w Mowie 45, 7), w którym Grzegorz z Nazjanzu przedstawił opis stworzenia człowieka. The reflection of God’s love in a man capable of such freedom puts man himself in a position to be master of his own field and to keep the tares so as not to damage wheat until the time of harvest. Until the moment in which love is recognized the search for a good that coincides with that of the other and that does not know restrictions and limitations of freedom.
